2. INTRODUCTION
This is an example of the videos produced by the Project TV team. This team has worked on recording all project activities, among other tasks. Any school activity, trip, exchange, visit, exhibition, can be recorded this way. On the one hand as an evidence of the activity itself, on the other hand as a motivation for students in following years. In this experience, we will focus on the technical steps, and the workflow during recording and post production stages.
Subjects that good practice is related to:
ICT: this practice requires the correct use of the necessary tools involved in audiovisual productions. This includes not only the handling of the devices themselves, but the use on/offline editors and other software.
English as SL: being English nowadays considered as a lingua franca worldwide, its mastery is crucial for every instance of action within the project. When it comes to producing an audiovisual piece in this European framework, the use of the English language is likewise important: the reporters interview some international partners, co-work with international members, videos should be edited with titles and subtitles in English.
Visual Arts: even with documentary productions, there is a craft in making them properly. It requires certain systematisation and steps to follow.
3. MOTIVATION
Since visual language is so powerful and meaningful, this practice makes the ideal means to disseminate any event or work.
Also, this practice means an ideal chance to apply all the required knowledge we’ve been working on to craft an audiovisual product, including all the necessary steps and workings.
Likewise, this practice entails some social and teamwork skills that happen to be crucial when working on such a complex product like the audiovisual.
4. GOALS:
This video, produced by The Project TV team, attempts to disseminate and illustrate everything regarding the proceedings carried out by the Social Media Team, both previous and during the Transnational Meeting held in Finland in October 2015. Apart from this major goal, this practice seeks the following objectives:
5. TARGET AND RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE
5.1. Target people
The people this practice is aimed at could be anyone interested in both its form and content, i.e. audiovisual production and social media respectively.
Being more precise, individuals somehow related to the Erasmus project or to the fields of education, social media or video production would be expected targets.
5.2. Responsible people
For this practice, the Project TV are in charge of producing the video itself, particularly -in this case- one our students.
However, for making this practice possible, we need a tight cooperation with other teams, the Social Media team in this case.

Apart from this major goal, this practice seeks the following objectives:
- To cooperate and cowork with other members in the production of audiovisual pieces.
- To plan all the necessary steps regarding audiovisual projects.
- To make proper use of all the equipment we have in order to produce decent footage.
- To choose/select shots, scenes, angles, subjects in real time and accordingly.
- To be familiar with the workings of video edition and be able to edit and render a video.
- To be able to upload the final video into our online channel.

6. IMPLEMENTATION:
The development of this best practice involves the following steps:
Known the event to film and the reporter in charge, the Project TV starts to work on the plan itself. This entails close cooperation with other teams; we need to know every single detail regarding the event we will film, for it will condition the number of reporters involved, the necessary technical equipment and the way we will undertake the filming. Therefore, in order to be as much informed as possible, members of the Project TV attend meetings and briefings organised by other teams before the event takes finally place.
The media files folder ready, the editing process itself starts. For the edition of this practice we make use of popular NLE (Non Linear Editor) Corel VideoStudio Pro X. We use this editor for its balance between simplicity and advanced features. In order to edit properly, the editor needs a plan first, she needs to know what she wants to achieve: the length of the final video, its tone, structure, files to be saved or discarded, soundtrack, fonts. It’s only when the editor has her plan clear when she fully starts.
Within the editing process, some systematized steps are necessary:
The dissemination process occurs off-line too. All the teams involved in an event, Social Media and Project TV in this case, actively participate in a talk explaining to everyone attending everything we worked on.
7. POSSIBLE OUTCOMES AND BENEFITS
The results of the the practice are beneficial to both people directly involved in the practice and viewers. Since this practice belongs to the dissemination stage, anyone interested in the fields related to the video would benefit from it, for it has an obvious illustrative nature.
However, it’s those members actually working on the product who benefit most. Among others, it contributes to the acquisition of some major objectives and key competences drawn by the educational authorities. Generally speaking, since the process behind the completion of this practice is so complex and demanding, somehow it succeeds in acquiring most of the objectives and competences stated below.
In relation to those objectives:
In relation to the Key Competences:

Working on such a complex, demanding practice not only brings some benefits but also arises some difficulties:
9. CONNECTION OF GOOD PRACTICE WITH ACTIVITIES / PROCESSES AT SCHOOL
For the completion of this entire practice, so much skill is required that members participating on it can apply those skills to other aspects within the school framework .
Actually, teachers and students involved are already that knowledge to make audiovisual productions directly related to certain subjects or general events regarding the school community. Many instances of this can be found in our channel
10. EVALUATION
Both using and working on this video clearly contributes to acquire every single objective stated above in section 4:
The development of this best practice involves the following steps:
- Planning: once we’re roughly told the event or task to film, the team in charge of the production of the video, Project TV, carefully plans how to undertake it. The planning stage begins assigning the person responsible for this particular project within the project TV.
- Filming: everything planned, it’s time for action. The reporter attends the event with the required equipment and knowledge; in constant communication with the Project TV’s coordinator and in close cooperation with the Social Media crew, she carries out all the tasks involving filming: sound, lighting, the setting, recording itself, selecting valid sequences, talking to subjects.
- Postproduction: this stage involves backing up all the footage into the computer first to secure such valuable material. After that, it’s time to copy just the best valid sequences into a new folder; this new folder contains all the footage, plus some additional media files -photos, logos, songs, other audio files, video headers- required when editing.
- Load all the footage from the folder into the editor’s timeline
- Fine-tune all the video files, especially length;sometimes we can even simply discard the file.
- Once all the selected files are loaded and fine-tuned, it’s time for light and colour grading. This is crucial to achieve the desired tone and mood we intend. A clever tip consists in adjusting a single video just to copy and batch-paste its format attributes into the others.
- We have now the exact videos, with the exact length and exact light and colour grading. It’s now when we work on the structure. Once we have clear the units of the final video, we can define them by using transitions. It’s important to use transitions careful and accordingly, avoiding the use and abuse of some cheap-looking ones. With all the videos, transitions, video header, logos and other elements embedded, the structure is ready and shouldn’t be altered.
- The structure is set and the editor should work now on the soundtrack. She adjusts first the video track’s volume level to accommodate additional soundtracks, if so.
- The whole project is nearly ready to go. Still, the editor needs to work on titles (opening titles and closing credits) and subtitles, if transcribing any dialogue.
- To cape it all, the editor goes for the rendering process, the process by which all those elements along the timeline become a single video, the final product. The editor must select first the format of the resulting video, its resolution, bitrate and codec.
- Dissemination: the final product is ready now to be shown. The Project TV uploads the video into the several channels we have so that all the members, partners participating in the project as well as anyone likewise interested can watch it.
The dissemination process occurs off-line too. All the teams involved in an event, Social Media and Project TV in this case, actively participate in a talk explaining to everyone attending everything we worked on.

Among others, it contributes to the acquisition of some major objectives and key competences drawn by the educational authorities. Generally speaking, since the process behind the completion of this practice is so complex and demanding, somehow it succeeds in acquiring most of the objectives and competences stated below.
In relation to those objectives:
- Improving school success rates and levels of development of basic skills: most basic skills are benefited from working on this practice, especially Linguistic, Digital, Learn to Learn and Entrepreneurship competences.
- School dropout decrease: working on this project means and requires a high degree of commitment, also within the school framework; making students feel that they strongly belong to the school community
- The increase in graduation rates: likewise, belonging to such a demanding project, means developing a great sense of achievement, also towards school lessons and subjects.
- Improving adequacy rates: the above sense of achievement also relates to acquiring certain adequacy awareness.
In relation to the Key Competences:
- Linguistic communication: for this practice, participants need to express themselves properly both written and orally. Written, when planning the project or communicating with others via mail. Orally, when explaining their own members or other partners the process and product of the practice. Members working on the practice not only use their mother tongue, Spanish, but English too, as being the lingua franca international members speak when meeting.
- Mathematical competence and basic competences in science and technology: needless to say that this practice is intimately related to technology for it requires mastering the equipment the project has.
- Digital competence: similarly to above, participating on this practice demands certain knowledge regarding digital tools, including social nets, video editors and channels.
- Learn to learn: students working on this practice greatly develop this competence since they’re continuously acquiring new knowledge and skills, often after trial and error processes and from observation.
- Social and civic competences: students need to possess various valuable social skills to successfully perform their tasks. They have to learn to cooperate and respect other members.
- Sense initiative and entrepreneurship: great part of the students tasks means autonomous work, taking decisions by themselves, being critical to their own work and to others’.
- Cultural awareness and expression: participating in this practice, involves travelling to foreign countries and everything this entails: keeping an open mind towards others, respecting and appreciating their culture, working with them.
8. POTENTIAL DIFFICULTIES
Working on such a complex, demanding practice not only brings some benefits but also arises some difficulties:
- Since this needs constant and close cooperation with members from both the same team and other teams, it may be sometimes difficult to articulate some group actions such as meetings, briefings or workshops.
- Timing is a problem too. The stages of planning and editing might be short, making the person in charge rush a little bit.
- Technical problems is a classic when working with technology. On this occasion, we experienced some problems regarding sound (later sorted), and the editing software. That’s why the planning stage is so important. The Internet itself could be a major problem if the server, the site or the connection is too slow or just offline.
- Though this is not the case, when a video production involves several members and roles, there might be some difficulties in coordinating them properly.
- Though rarely, sometimes we have to deal with some issues regarding Image Rights
